The Island of Mallorca
Or is it Majorca?
To be honest it is both, although Mallorca is the more commonly used form. Everything here has two names, the Spanish and the Mallorquin. Even the languages are different. Steeped in history this island has far more to offer than magnificent white sandy beaches and endless hours of sunshine. The first people stepped on to this island over 6,000 years ago, settling into the wondrous caves that can be found all around the island. To really appreciate the islands dramatic history I strongly advise looking for a guided tour either in the towns you visit or an island tour. A few clues on how to find the more enjoyable and informative tours are to look for the numbers included. 23 or less will make for a personal approach from the guide. As a tour guide myself I can promise that handling 50 to 60 people is a full time occupation in itself leaving no special time for the guests. Smaller numbers mean time for private conversations and the ability to allow guests to join in the chat and ask questions.
Learn about the Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans, The Vandals, Moores and the Spanish who all visited and /or invaded the island. Also of the effect each one made on the culture and development of the way of life here. This will make each visit to a town, church or castle so much more interesting.
Taste the Local cuisine - to do this you need to move away from the tourist areas and venture into the little restaurants inland. The Mallorquin people are friendly by nature, all you have to do is smile and say hello. The true Mallorquin cuisine reminds me of the best Farm house Home cooked meals. The soups are a meal in themselves and delicious. Even the local bread has to be eaten in a special way to fully be appreciated and you have not met Mallorca if you have not tried Pan Boli or Allioli. Lamb is a specialty - make sure you are hungry.
The Journey here.
Traveling to the island of Mallorca couldn't be easier. Scheduled flights at reasonable fares form all over Europe to the islands airport Palma de Mallorca. What better than to land at Palma airport and within 40 minutes you are in your holiday villa and beginning to relax. With the new road now from Palma de Mallorca to the old Town of Alcudia the journey is quick and easy.
Outdoors pursuits are in abundance here depending on your choice of activity. Excellent golf courses, for example the new Alcanada Golf course. Walking in the mountains or surrounding areas - from the apartment you can walk through the bocca valley or over to Cala San Vicente. From the villa in Bonaire (es Mal Pas) you are already on the peninsular of Victoria, so just walk out of the villa and choose your route. The drive to Lluc monastery through the mountains has breathtaking views and excellent walks of all levels can be enjoyed and of course a well earned lunch or dinner in the monasteries restaurant when you have finished. There are also wonderful walks to be found along the Victoria peninsular direct from the Villa.
Golf, Windsurfing, Sailing, scuba diving, canoeing, all within walking distance of the apartment and the villa. Equipment can be hired and training courses are available. This is also the perfect area for cycling and many clubs train on the island in the off season.
The Jewel of the Mediterranean
Things to do in Mallorca for that special holiday in Summer or Winter.
Leisure cycling is perfect here for there are many flat areas to enjoy. For example from Pto Pollensa to Alcudia Town, the Port of Alcudia or Alcudia resort, would be an easy and enjoyable ride. There are several bike hire companies with various prices depending on your requirements. There is even a professional bike hire for the serious riders who prefer not to put their own bike on the plane. The Bays of Pollensa and Alcudia are also favourites for bird watchers due to the protected areas and migration routes. The Albeferra steeped in history is a nature park and special hides can be booked for the serious birders.
Activities:

Golf - Walking - Trekking - Climbing - Bird Watching - Sailing - Windsurfing - Scuba Diving - Relaxing - Theatre - Classical Concerts - Opera - Art - Jazz - Health and Well being - Squash - Tennis - Mountain Climbing and I am sure there are many that I have not though of.
Spring & Autumn:
The temperate weather makes the island the perfect location for activity
holidays, or for those who enjoy exploring the special experiences
that the true Mallorca has to offer. This is a more quiet time of
year, yet the restaurants and summer businesses are still open, allowing
the visitor more space and opportunities to meet the locals in a more
relaxed mood. Flowers are in abundance and the markets full of locally
grown produce.
Winter:
Mild & wet. The end of winter is one of the most beautiful times
in Mallorca as almond trees are blossoming. It is the quiet period
for tourism, yet good for entertainment with many festivals, particularly
in January. Many businesses are closed at this time of year and
the beaches are natural with the parasols and sun beds removed. For
those wanting peace and tranquility, this is the time to visit Mallorca
